Dear Parent/Guardian,

My name is SUSAN ALLISON and I am the GUIDANCE COUNSELOR at DeZavala Elementary School. I am extremely excited to be part of a dedicated staff of teachers and administrators who believe that all DeZavala Eagles will someday be College Bound.  We are committed to preparing our students to be young, prosperous adults who will contribute to their families and society in a positive way. 

While the classroom teacher is busy teaching essential school subjects such as reading, writing, math, and social studies, it is my job to teach your child good social skills.  I will build on what you have taught at home by reinforcing such things as:

• How to get along with others
• Accepting responsibility
• Making good choices
• Controlling emotions

I will be working with your child in small groups, classroom presentations, and individual sessions, if needed. 

Unfortunately, there are times when life deals our DeZavala community difficulties such as death, separation, divorce, loss of job, illness.  When this occurs, our students may have trouble concentrating and performing well at school.  Please notify me if your family experiences a situation that may influence your child.  I will observe the adjustment process and will assist if necessary.    

The very best schools in Texas have good working relationships between school personnel and parents.  At DeZavala, we invite you to work with us in order to insure a successful educational experience for all students.  They deserve a life of excellence and it is our desire to provide the tools necessary for them to obtain all they wish and desire.
