Scharbauer Elementary opened in 1985 and is named after Ruth Cowden Scharbauer. The Cowdens and the Scharbauers are pioneer families of Midland. Scharbauer Elementary is located in northwest Midland in the Grassland Subdivision. Approximately 60% of the student population resides in the northwestern and western portions of Midland County. Other students come to Scharbauer from the surrounding neighborhood. Students may also attend Scharbauer on a transfer from other schools according to district policy. Scharbauer has a population of approximately 800 students with a cap of 22 students per classroom in grades K-4. The average class size of fifth and sixth grade is 25. The school serves children in the general education setting and also in the areas of gifted/talented, dyslexia, speech, and learning disabilities. Students in the 6th grade have the opportunity to participate in the strings program. For the past eight years, Scharbauer has been a Recognized School. Test scores may be viewed at the Texas Education Agency web site. Our school mascot is the Wrangler.
