Seventh and Eighth grade students will have the opportunity to earn the following incentives based on their performance on the STAAR tests and good attendance throughout the spring semester. Eighth grade students, who meet the passing standard and have no more than 4 absences during the spring semester, will be exempt from the corresponding course spring semester final exam(s). Example: meet the passing standard for ELA and 4 or less absences they will be exempt from the ELA semester test. The same applies for the following (Math, Science, and Social Studies). The seventh grade students who meet the passing standard for ELA, Writing and Math will be exempt from those corresponding tests. Students can choose to take the final exam to improve their average in the course if they choose to do so. For the purposes of determining attendance criteria, absences coded "E" and "D" (i.e., school absences "E" and doctor's absences "D" where the student was in attendance a portion of the day) will not count against students. Absences coded as "C" (when students are absent all day with a doctor's note) will be counted as an absence for the purpose of meeting the attendance criteria for an exemption. All decisions related to the determination of the attendance criteria will be made by the grade level principal in accordance with these guidelines. The final decision, made by the campus principal, is not appealable. Students who are enrolled in a course in which the EOC (end of course) exam is given, they will be exempt from that courses final exam. Those students, who take the EOC, will instead complete a project due during final exam week. This project will count as a minor grade for the final six weeks of the semester.
